Hand drawn digital illustration.
I’d been wanting to try Procreate for a while. Useful for sketching, drawing on photos, illustrating and more, but I was particularly curious about the ability to make animations. I started with the beginners course from Teela Cunningham, followed by several tutorials on youTube (links below) and then found Caroline Kjellberg’s Domestika course - particularly interesting because I liked her amazing animation style combining photography with hand drawn illustration.
I haven't worked out why, but I'm drawn to animation - graphics, stop motion - it just makes things more interesting. Procreate is a really nice program to use on the iPad, although it does have its limitations. If you can think of something you want to do, you can guarantee that at some point it'll move beyond the scope of the software you're using so occasionally I switch to other apps to complete the job (for example CapCut for compiling short videos). I would use Procreate for sketching ideas, digital illustrations and short animated graphics - great to use and reasonably priced.
This project lead nicely into the next as I continued with the animation theme but made it more analogue: Riso Animation with Kelli Anderson.
